COMMUTERS are being urged "not to get back into their cars" before work on the Kessock Bridge is completed.

Hundreds of vehicles were taken off the A9 road link between Inverness and the Black Isle earlier this week as emergency repairs were carried out.

However, peak time vehicle numbers have started to creep.

Scotland Transerv has paid tribute to local motorists for finding alternative means of getting to work, but urged them not to switch back to driving before the work is finished.

Cathel MacAskill of Scotland Transerv said the number of cars crossing the bridge had increased day on day since Monday, but stressed the rise was not causing them too much concern as the maximum delay so far was 28 minutes at 8.10 am on Wednesday, a lot shorter than the predicted 75 minutes.

He believes the increase in traffic since Monday is down to the fact that commuters are realising the delays were not as bad as expected and some are opting to drive again.

“There has been an increase in cars, that is happening, but that is not taking away form the enormous effort the community has made,” he said.

“People should not change their arrangements, we are encouraging them not to get back into their cars.”?
