What advice does council get on traffic?

By SPP Reporter

Sir, – Having been a traffic management officer in Strathclyde before moving to Moray 11 years ago, I have often wondered what kind of people Moray Council listen to when planning traffic issues.

Strange roundabout layouts, pedestrian lights that cause more problems than they solve, crazy schemes to put traffic through Wittet Drive into already congested Edgar Road, upsetting the disabled drivers and many more have made me wonder what kind of qualifications and training road engineers receive these days.

However, one final straw has prompted me to write – that is the choke points recently installed on Linkwood Road. I know that these have their place in traffic-calming, but an elementary rule is that they must not be placed on a bend.

In the last two weeks I have had several close calls, and a neighbour has been forced to mount the kerb to avoid oncoming vehicles.

There is insufficient sightline on approach to the western choke point, which means that this latest folly is not just silly but extremely dangerous.

Accidents will happen and someone will be injured, and the blame will lie firmly with the Moray Council, who, in their ignorance, I assume, are listening to their so-called experts.

The number of letters about the various idiotic decisions must make it obvious that the council must seek more sensible advice.

Yours etc,

Dave Duff,

Arden House,

Longmorn.
