Low-emission shuttle bus among greener glens ideas
THE development of a low-emission shuttle bus service between Inverness and Drumnadrochit are among the suggestions put forward in community-devised local energy plan.
The document, which will be launched at a Green Living Day in Drumnadrochit on Saturday, also includes proposals such as the development of a community-owned solar array and the provision of advice around tariff switching.
The plan, which outlines key priorities for the Drumnadrochit area in relation to energy saving, power and heat generation and transport, has been drawn up following consultation with residents and various organisations.
It has been funded with EU and Scottish Government money and its development has been led by a steering group including environmental charity, Soirbheas, Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association, the Chamber of Commerce and Glen Urquhart Community Coouncil.
The launch will be among a range of activities during the Green Living Day which aims to help local residents save money, have warmer homes and be healthier.
Visitors will have the chance to try an electric bike, enjoy a taster health walk or join in a children’s clothing and book swap.
There will also be a Dr Bike session organised in conjunction with Velocity Cafe for visitors to take their cycles for a health check and simple maintenance
Home Energy Scotland will provide advice on energy saving and there will be a display of art work created by primary school pupils on the theme of green superheroes.
It will be held at Glen Urquhart Hall between 11am and 3pm.
Another event, Hard To Treat Properties, will be held at the Craigmonie Centre on Wednesday October 3 from 7pm to 9pm.
Moses Jenkins of Historic Environment Scotland will share his expertise on installing different types of insulation, glazing, draught-proofing as well as outlining other energy-saving measures.
Home Energy Scotland and Resource Efficient Scotland specialists will be on hand to offer free, impartial energy efficiency advice and provide information on the latest sources of funding support.
