Clach bounce back to form

By SPP Reporter

CLACH returned to winning ways on Wednesday night with a 2-0 Highland League win at Fort William.

The opening goal came after just seven minutes when Alan Pollock latched on to a long clearance from goalkeeper David Harrison and fired a terrific low drive past John Campbell into the net.

Fort’s task became tougher six minutes before the break when Graham Bamber was red-carded for a challenge on Pollock.

Despite the hosts’ second half improvement, Clach made sure of their victory on 84 minutes with a fine solo goal from John MacAskill.

Nairn County were back at Formartine United just a few days after they hammered Steve Paterson’s team 4-0 in the Fosters Highland League Cup.

This time, in the league, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Richie Singer netted an early goal for Formartine, but Dale Gillespie continued his fine form when he earned a point for Nairn on 35 minutes.

Buckie Thistle stayed on course to retain the title when they romped to a 4-0 midweek victory at Inverurie Locos, while main challengers Keith were held 2-2 at home to Huntly.

Deveronvale are still firmly in the chase after their 5-0 demolotion of Turriff United, while fourth-placed Cove Rangers are probably too far behind to clinch the league – despite their 3-1 win over Fraserburgh.

Elsewhere, Rothes snatched a late 2-1 win at home to battling Brora Rangers and Forres Mechanics rose to fifth spot after their 3-0 home victory against Strathspey Thistle.
