Library weekend open for all

FORRES Library are hoping for a good turnout to a special open weekend taking place this Friday and Saturday.

The aptly named ‘Welcome (Back) to Your Library’ event is being held during normal opening hours, from 10am to 8pm (Friday) and from 10am till 12noon (Saturday).

"Over the two days we’re hoping that people will use the library for the first time, and for the first time in years," said community librarian, Jane Sandell.

She said it would be business as usual with clients able to take advantage of the wide selection of books, DVDs, CDs and talking books, free PC use, local studies collection, newspapers and reference materials.

There will also be a number of free events taking place which are suitable for all the family over the two days.

Activities get underway at 11am on Friday with a special storytime for pre-school children and their parents or carers.

A basic ‘computer skills’ taster session is scheduled for later in the day (2.30pm to 4pm).

At 7pm Mrs Sandell will be giving an talk, suitable for adults, on books you might have missed but should not have, with very new titles and very old titles.

On Saturday morning from 10.30am), Alistair Campbell, libraries and museums manager for Moray Council, will speak about the importance of local libraries. He will also answer questions.

"There will also be lots of displays of stock and the chance to borrow a surprise book," said Ms Sandell.

"We will also be promoting our reading groups for adults and book group for children, with information about our computer courses run by one of our IT tutors."
