People from across the North of Scotland have helped raise over £12,000 for leading charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer by taking part in, or sponsoring, a special one-off event in Kirkcaldy in Fife.

The ‘10k for £10k Challenge’ involved walking, running or cycling for 10k around Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy and was a huge success with over 140 people of all ages, mostly dressed in pink, taking part.

Dorothy wanted to fundraise to fight back against the disease and gave herself the huge target of raising £10,000 for Breakthrough’s life-saving work.Local resident of Strath Halladale Rhoda Sutherland’s daughter Dorothy Bissett thought up the event after her own battle with breast cancer.

It was a family affair with not only Rhoda taking part, but also Dorothy’s husband Douglas, her sister Fiona and children Joanna and Daniel, who all helped reach the target.Along with family and friends she set about asking 50 people to try to raise £200 each and managed to sign up teams from across Scotland.

She said:So far an incredible £12,000 has been raised through donations and sponsorship, and Dorothy is hopeful even more money can be raised.
