PLANS for a new skate park in Ullapool have been ramped up with the award of a £7500 Big Lottery Fund grant.

The Uskate group had already secured some funding after making a pitch for the project at a community event and now looks set to purchase equipment which can be used to create a mobile facility for the village’s skateboarders.

The group’s David Crook, who is a teacher at Ullapool High, said he was delighted with the latest boost.

He said: “Two years ago we got a loan of portable skate park equipment owned by Highland Council. It was located on the tennis court at Lochbroom Leisure Centre and was well used but eventually it had to move on somewhere else. It was well received so I’m sure this will be well used.”

Ullapool Harbour trust also chipped in £1000 to the fund. The new equipment will be sourced from a specialist firm in California.
