Lochinver RNLI Lifeboat was launched at the weekend to assist with the safe arrival and berthing of a French fishing trawler with mechanical failure which was under tow into Lochinver harbour.

The disabled trawler had suffered engine failure the previous day and had been under tow by another French trawler for about 24 hours.

The vessel’s agent had requested assistance from the Lochinver RNLI Lifeboat to standby astern of the stricken vessel to act as a brake in event it became necessary to slow or stop the trawler when entering into Lochinver harbour.

With the skilful assistance from the skipper of the other French trawler and with the Lochinver RNLI Lifeboat in close attendance, the disabled vessel was successfully berthed alongside the pier in Lochinver and will now be attended by her owner’s engineers in the coming days.
