Nairn hit back to net replay with Forfar
NAIRN County struck back in style to claim a William Hill Scottish Cup replay in a thrilling 3-3 draw against their Second Division hosts Forfar Athletic on Saturday.
Les Fridge’s Highland League side were 3-0 down at the break after goals by Chris Templeman, Gavin Swankie and Steven Tulloch.
Dick Campbell’s troops were rocked through by Nairn’s second half comeback.
Michael Morrison scored on 56 minutes with a stunning free-kick from inside his own half before Ross Naismith made it a real contest when he found the net on 71 minutes.
Nairn, who knocked Third Division Clyde out of the competition in the previous round, earned their replay when Craig MacMillan scored with a header.
Clach gave Second Division Ayr United a run for their money in their Scottish Cup tie at Somerset Park before being edged out 2-1.
Scott Graham put Iain Polworth’s team the advantage, but Ayr made it 1-1 five minutes after the interval when Michael Moffat scored with a header.
Former Ross County forward David Winters was key to turning the game in his team’s favour when he was brought down by keeper John Campbell on the hour mark.
Up stepped Moffat and made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Elsewhere in the cup, Deveronvale beat Third Division side Stirling Albion 1-0 away, Inverurie Locos hit back from 3-0 down to force a replay with Second Division visitors Arbroath, Cove Rangers were edged out 2-1 by Division One hosts Partick Thistle and Turriff United won the all-Highland League tie against Buckie Thistle.
In the league, Barry Wilson’s first game in charge at Wick Academy saw him guide them to top spot with a 5-1 home win against Keith.
Formartine United hit six without reply against Huntly, Brora Rangers beat Rothes 2-0 and there were 5-0 home wins for Fraserburgh and Forres Mechanics against Lossiemouth and Fort William respectively.
