SCOTTISH crime fiction’s clown prince, Christopher Brookmyre, will return to Eden Court this month as part of Book Week Scotland, Scotland’s first national celebration of books and reading.

The former Inverness resident last appeared in Eden Court’s OneTouch Theatre at the 2011 Inverness Book Festival together with musician Billy Franks, but for his Book Week Scotland appearance, he makes a solo appearance as he talks about his books.

These include the award-winning Quite Ugly One Morning, filmed for ITV with James Nesbitt, One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night, set on a converted oil rig on the Moray Firth, and his latest book Where The Bodies Are Buried, featuring new series character part-time private eye Jasmine Sharp.

Recently heard on BBC Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra hosting Christopher Brookmyre’s Comedy Bookcase, where he interviewed comedians about their own dabbles in the book world, Brookmyre also has a reputation as a hilarious live performer in his own right — though be warned that the odd naughty word might slip through.

Tickets for his Eden Court appearance on Tuesday 27th November are available now from the theatre box office.

Also taking part in Book Week Scotland is Galloway born novelist and short story writer Sara Maitland, who will be talking about her latest book Gossip From The Forest: A Search For The Hidden Roots Of Our Fairytales.

She appears at The Glen Mhor Hotel, Ness Bank, Inverness, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 27th November, where she will lead a writing workshop for the Highland Literary Salon, and the following day at The Plough Inn, Rosemarkie at 1pm and Kinlochleven Library at 7.30pm, before finishing her Highland tour at the Skeabost Hotel, Isle of Skye, at 7pm on Thursday 29th November.

Other Book Week Scotland Events will see Pauline Mackay, publisher of multicultural, dual language children’s books, talk about her latest publications at Inverness Library, Farraline Park, at 3.30pm on Tuesday 27th November; crime writer Frank Muir at Fort William Library at 6.30pm on Monday 26th November; and Peter Wright, author of Ribbon of Wildness, talking about how he walked Scotland’s watershed in 2005, at Brora Library at 11am on Friday 30th November.
