Grantown bravehearts defy the weather at mega truck event
As the dust settles after the second major truck invasion of Grantown, the man behind the event has relived his favourite moment.
Martin Grant, who launched the event last year – raising £10,000 for local and national charities – told the Strathy: "My own personal highlight on Saturday was to get to drive the most beautiful cab I've ever been in, and I've been in a few over the years, I can tell you."
There were up to 180 trucks parading through the Strathspey capital on Saturday morning before gathering on the Show Field for a brilliant afternoon programme of events, stalls, trophies and demonstrations.
The weather, unlike last year, let down the organiser and his brilliant team of volunteers, with rain falling much of the time, but there were still plenty of people around the enjoy the sight of magnificently maintained mega vehicles such as the "Braveheart" pictured here.
"That belongs to my friend Ker Malcolm, from Glasgow, and the best part of the day for me was being allowed to drive it for a wee while – on condition that I took off my dirty boots!" said Martin.
The main charity being helped by this year's event is the fight against motor neurone disease, although various local charities will received support as well.
"We've yet to work out all the finances," said Mr Grant, who added that despite the weather the day had been well worth it and there would certainly be a third parade next year.
"Everyone put up with the weather but the late-comers especially enjoyed the finish indoors, with the Abba tribute act Swede Dreamz warming things up!"
The event sponsors this year were Elgin Truck & Van Centre.
Thursday's Strathy will carry more pictures of the day.
