Multi-million plans for Cairngorm ski resort to be unveiled
The operators of CairnGorm Mountain are set to unveil their £6.2 million plans to the public next week to turn the attraction into a ‘world class year-round mountain destination’.
They include plans for a replacement Day Lodge at Coire Cas which will include food and drink outlets, retail, ski and bike hire, a children’s creche, an adventure zone, gym and overnight staff accommodation.
There are also proposals for an artificial ski slope, increased snow-making facilities and improvements to skiing uplift.
The exact details are being kept under wraps for a public consultation, with the proposals going on show for the first time at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore this Monday (October 26) from 1pm to 9pm.
There will be further exhibitions of what is planned the next day at the hotel from 11.30am to 7pm and also at the base station at CairnGorm Mountain on Wednesday October 28; Wednesday November 4 and Thursday November 5, all from 11.30am to 7pm.
Mr Adam Gough, who is head of technical services – Europe, for operators Wilmslow-based Natural Retreats, said he was hopeful work could start next summer on the first phase if all goes well with planning.
He said: "The ambition is to create a world class, year round mountain destination by sympathetically enhancing the overall visitor experience, broadening the appeal and solving a number of existing challenges faced throughout the year."
Mr Gough said he is hopeful that the planning process can be ‘positively concluded’ early next year with a start in the summer of 2016.
