MSP welcomes good news for Post Office
Dave Thompson SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the announcement that the DVLA have awarded the contract to provide DVLA services to Post Office Limited.
Commenting on the news, Mr Thompson said: “The Post Office is a much loved institution, and is a vital service in rural and remote areas. This contract extension is great news and is a welcome boost for the long term future of Post Offices.”
The Post Office have won a £450 million contract extension which means that Post Offices will be able to continue to run applications for driving licences and changes to license photocards.
Mr Thompson added: "This is a rare piece of good news for the Post Office, and follows a huge campaign organised by the National Federation of Sub Post masters.
"The award of the contract is good news in that it will stabilise an income stream for many post offices but the challenge to both government and Post Office limited is to build on this by making good on the promise to make the post office the front office for government."
