A grand gesture from Kingussie lensman to mountain rescue team
Kingussie photographer Ed Smith has handed over a cool £1,072 to the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team – raised through sales of his brilliant “Northern Cairngorms” collection published last year.
He is pictured presenting his book to CMRT members Conor Cromie, Brian Fishpool and Gemma Munro.
The celebrated mountain photographer gifted £2 from each of his sales.
He told the Strathy: “Contributing to the rescue team is something I’ve wanted to do for a number of years as I spend a huge amount of time in the mountains creating my work.
"This team of highly experienced volunteers should never be taken for granted. What they offer and put themselves through for others, in some of the most gruelling mountain conditions in the UK, is truly exceptional. I’m especially thrilled that this is an on going fundraising effort, as the book sales will continue to contribute to CMRT for the foreseeable future."
The introduction to 'Northern Corries' includes these wide words from the Kingussie photographer, whose studio can be found in the High Street:
"The Cairngorms can prove to be a tough test, but they also take care of something precious inside each one of us as we enjoy them. Remember to take care of them too, and tread lightly on your adventures."
