More traffic disruption for motorists in Badenoch
A £140,000 programme of road improvements on the A86 and A889 in the Laggan and Dalwhinnie planned to take place over the next two months has just got underway.
There will be a number of road closures affecting traffic in the area.
The investment from Transport Scotland will see culvert replacements and road surfacing take place on various sections of the two roads.
Road chiefs have said the programme of work is essential to ensure the continued safety of the trunk road, improve the condition of the road surface and repair the routes at these sections ahead of winter.
The first of the work starts today (Monday) with essential culvert replacement works on the A86 east of Laggan – and will last until Sunday 18 October.
The A86 will be fully closed to all traffic from Gaskbeg Farm to Laggan village for one week.
During the closures an alternative diversion route for through traffic will be signposted via the A86, A889, A9 and B9150.
This will be followed by overnight essential culvert replacement and carriageway patching – A86 east of Cluny Mains to Drumgask – from Monday 26 October to Friday 6 November.
It will require A86 overnight road closures for two weeks between 8pm and 6am.
A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "Culvert replacement and patching to the road surface will be carried out across two phases on the A86 east of Cluny Mains to Drumgask.
"Due to the narrow road width, both phases are required to be carried out during overnight road closures for two weeks between 8pm and 6am, with no closure in place on Friday or Saturday nights.
"The first phase will replace a collapsed culvert just east of Cluny Mains, starting on Monday 26 October for five nights.
"The second phase will start on Monday 2 November for four nights, and will involve carriageway patching works at various locations between east of Cluny and the junction at Drumgask."
They have said that access for local residents will be maintained.
There will also be overnight carriageway patching repairs of the A889 in Dalwhinnie on Friday 6 November for one night with the road closed between 8pm and 6am.
Further carriageway patching repairs will be carried out on the A86 in Laggan on Tuesday 10 November for one day with a convoy in operation between 7am to 7pm.
Mr Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Unit Representative said: "This programme of essential improvements will ensure the A86 and A889 continues to provide a safe journey for road users.
"We’ve planned these works following consultation with local residents, the local authority and travel operators, and have taken steps to minimise disruption such as including night time working where possible and limiting our weekend working.
"All diversion routes will be signed to notify motorists ahead of the closures and we thank motorists for their patience in advance."
