Two climbers have been traced safe and well in the Cairngorms following an extensive search after they were reported missing yesterday evening.

A large-scale search was carried out involving mountain rescue teams from RAF Leuchars, RAF Lossiemouth, Cairngorm, Glenmore Lodge, Braemar and rescue dogs from SARDA.

The pair were located on Ben MacDui at 10am and have been taken to Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team’s base at Inverdruie by RAF rescue helicopter 137.

A police spokesman said: "The pair were uninjured apart from suffering the effects of the cold. We would like to thank everyone involved in the very extensive search to find the men."

Police were notified shortly after 7pm that two men had become lost after a day’s climbing in the Cairngorms.
