Man stopped on A9 had over £28k of drugs in bag
A motorist stopped on the A9 by Aviemore because his car’s MoT had expired was found with over £28,000 worth of cannabis stashed in a bag.
Depute fiscal Roderick Urquhart told Inverness Sheriff Court that police were told Mohammed Afzaal Din’s car had no MoT.
The car was stopped by police officers on December 21, 2012, and Mr Urquhart said their suspicions were aroused by an item inside.
He said: "They saw in the footwell on the passenger’s side of the vehicle a shopping-style bag."
On checking the bag, it was found to contain packages covered in tape.
The contents were sent for laboratory tests and were confirmed to be cannabis resin.
Mr Urquhart said that there were 100 packages containing 100 kilogrammes in total of cannabis which had a wholesale value of between £10,000 and £12,000 and a street value of up to £28,560.
Din (36), of Hillcrest Avenue, Paisley, admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class B drug on the A9 near Aviemore on December 21 last year.
Mr John Gardner, solicitor for Din, asked for deferral for reports and for any proceeds of criminal matters to be considered.
Din was remanded in custody until March 18, when he will be sentenced.
