Lost Cairngorms hillwalker is found safe and well
Police have urged hillwalkers to take the right navigational equipment into the mountains and be able to use it after a Polish man was lost on Ben MacDui for nearly 31 hours.
The man contacted Aviemore police at about 3:30pm on Wednesday and told them he had ascended Ben MacDui and then got lost in the mist.
He was lost lost on the Cairngorm Plateau all night and all the following day. He had run out of food, was confused and was uncertain of his whereabouts. The overnight weather forecast was for severe overnight rain.
27 Mountain Rescue team members from Cairngorm and Braemar Mountain Rescue Teams were deployed to the area.
The man was traced in the Coire Raibert area of Cairngorm, above Loch Avon, at 10:17pm yesterday by members of Cairngorm Mountain Rescue and was assisted to safety. He was tired and hungry but unhurt.
A Northern Constabulary spokesman said the incident was a timely reminder of the need for hill goers to carry appropriate navigation equipment and have the necessary skills to use the equipment.
