Man charged with vehicle theft after police 'day of action' on A9

A man was arrested and charged in connection with a vehicle theft and other offences following a recent 'day of action' on the A9, police have revealed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 1.10pm officers carrying out activity on the A9 between Inverness and Dalwhinnie were alerted to a report of a stolen vehicle in Spean Bridge.

"They traced the vehicle and the driver just 45 minutes later, on the A889 heading for the A9.

"A 34-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with the theft as well as other offences.

"He is due to appear before Inverness Sheriff Court at a later date."

PC Gary Moir said a number of the vehicles were stopped as part of the wider activity on the A9 on Saturday 18 February.

He commented: "This initiative aimed to challenge the ‘Fatal Five’ factors – careless or inconsiderate driving; drink and drug driving; not wearing a seatbelt; using a mobile device; and inappropriate speed – and two drivers were given fixed penalty notices.

“Police Scotland's mission is to keep people safe and that includes making our country's roads safer through enforcement action.”
