Road chiefs have said the results will be a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The roadworks will be split into two phases of work. The project is programmed as follows:

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "The project will begin on Wednesday for 11 days, 7am to 7pm each day.

"To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.

"No works are programmed for Saturday or Sunday with the first phase of works expected to be completed by 7pm on October 23.

"All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours."

The Strathy has asked Transport Scotland for the specific location for the work by Aviemore to see if it will affect traffic heading north and south from the village.

The second phase of the Granish brae project connecting the A9 and A95 is scheduled to get underway on October 27 for three nights.

The improvements will take place between 7pm and 7am each night with surfacing expected to be completed by October 30.

The spokesperson said: "For safety, the A9/A95 Granish junction will be closed, and a signed diversion route will be in place via the A9 Lynwig junction through Aviemore.

"The A9 will remain fully open throughout the project and all traffic management will be removed outwith working hours."

Emergency services will be allowed access at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “This essential resurfacing project will create a much-improved road surface, greatly increasing the quality of the carriageway at this section of the A9.

“We’ve taken steps to help minimise disruption as much as much as possible during the project, including avoiding weekend working, however our teams will look to complete the improvements as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience whilst we carry out these essential surfacing improvements on the A9 and would encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and allow some extra time for travel.”
