The Macdonald Aviemore Resort has landed a major coup by securing the Ocean Energy Europe conference.

The event is expected to attract more than 360 delegates from across the continent when it is staged from November 5-6 and bring a significant financial boost to the local economy.

They will be attending from over 40 countries at the conference and exhibition which is the showcase for the ocean energy sector.

Kenny McMillan, managing director at the resort, said: "We are very proud to host the Ocean Energy Europe conference for the first time in Aviemore.

There will be more than 60 speakers as part of the two-day programme providing the latest insights, news and information on the sector.

There will be technology developers, project developers, supply chain companies, trade associations and universities all in one place at the exhibition and conference.

It will also be a shop windown for the strath.

A resort spokesperson said: “Although specific economic impact figures are still being determined, we anticipate that the event will significantly boost the local economy towards the end of the year.

“We are collaborating with our local suppliers and neighbouring chambers including the Cairngorm Business Partnership and Inverness Chamber of Commerce to promote the attractions of the Cairngorms and Highlands.

“ The conference coincides with the Autumn holidays, and many delegates are planning to extend their stays to explore the region further.”

She added: “ Hosting such a significant event not only highlights Aviemore as the leading conference destination but also has the potential to attract these visitors back to the region with their families and friends, thereby enhancing future tourism.”

The conference has been held in various locations including Edinburgh in 2018 and Donostiaand San Sebastián in the Basque region of Spain in 2022.

Organisers have stated: “Scotland has been a long-term champion of ocean energy, with many ocean energy companies calling Scotland home.

“We are proud to be back in Scotland this year, where continued supportive policies have created a thriving ocean energy economy: a robust supply chain, amazing technological advancements and machines in the water, powering homes.”
