Go Swim: open water event comes to Loch Morlich





Durty Events and Triathlon Edinburgh have expanded the Go Swim events series in response to the growing popularity of open water swimming. The event began with Go Swim Loch Lomond in 2019 which attracted around 1000 swimmers in its first year, and now encompasses Go Swim Loch Morlich in Strathspey and Go Swim Loch Tay in Strathtay.

Each event promises a packed programme of open water swimming for all ages and experience levels.

Go Swim Loch Morlich will take place on the sandy shores of Loch Morlich Beach on Saturday, September 18.

Swim options range from 250 metres through to 10,000 metres and a junior and adult aquathlons are also available.

Event organisers invite swimmers to start their swims from the UK’s highest beach on the shores of Loch Morlich under the shadow of Cairngorm Mountain.

Go Swim Loch Tay will be kicking – or splashing – off the series as a part of the wider Aberfeldy Multi Sports Festival on Saturday August 21with swims starting at Taymouth Marina.

Go Swim Loch Lomond follows the weekend after on August 28 with additional swim distance options and Aquathlon for juniors and adults.

The Strathspey event will round the season off in spectacular Cairngorm style.

Go Swim event organisers will have strict plans in place to ensure social distancing is maintained at each of the events, with adequate space for social distancing on site as well as enhanced hygiene stations to ensure the safety of competitors, staff, and local host community. They are also offering entrants a "no quibbles" deferral policy to mitigate competitor concerns around signing up in a Covid-19 world.

Richard Pearson, event director of the series, said: “We are really excited to be able to continue the development of a fantastic open water swim events across Scotland under the Go Swim brand. Following the great success of Go Swim Loch Lomond in 2019 and the huge increases in open water swimming participation the new venues offer a great fit for what we offer and believe in – amazing people doing amazing things in amazing places in a unique National Open Water swim series.

The Go Swim event series is supported by the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Event Scotland, the Forestry and Land Scotland, and Perth and Kinross Council.

Entry prices start from £15. All entrants will receive an official chip time, finisher’s medal, event t-shirt and custom event swim cap for optimal bragging rights. All events have a full water safety team on hand to ensure competitor safety.
