Local MP welcomes new move on high fuel prices
Local MP fDanny Alexander has welcomed the latest Office of Fair Trading (OFT) announcement - asking concerned motorists and organisations to submit information amid continuing concerns about prices at the pump.
The OFT review will focus on whether reductions in price of crude oil are being reflected by the price motorists are paying at the pump. The analysis will also look at pricing structures and the state of competition within the sector.
The OFT has asked for industry, motoring groups and consumer bodies to submit evidence.
Highland MP Danny Alexander says:
“I am delighted the OFT have announced a call for information on the fuel market.
“People living in the Highlands already experience some of the highest prices in the UK - and the rising price of fuel is a major concern.
“That is why the coalition government is doing everything possible to reduce fuel prices - particularly in rural areas. However, fuel retailers have an obligation to ensure that those savings and reductions in the price of crude oil are passed on to people at the pump.
“I would encourage local people and organisations to provide the OFT with any evidence they have regarding fuel prices or the practise of local fuel suppliers. Alternatively, please contact my office as I am more than happy to pass information on.”
