Grantown Initiative aims to keep the sparkle going in the Strathspey capital
Grantown's annual festive lights display has been brightening up the Strathspey capital’s High St and Square over the season for decades and brings a lot of special holiday magic to the town, for everyone who lives here.
“This year, we will still have many of the familiar lights that have been adorning both the High Street and the lampposts and trees in the Square through the years, but we now urgently need to find the money to buy new ones” says Grantown Initiative.
“The ones we have are are failing.”
An appeal has been launched to help meet the increasing costs of repair and equipment to ensure the team's volunteers stay safe while putting the lights up and taking them down again to put into storage for the next year.
All of the costs - purchase, repair and installation - are covered by the town's volunteers under the umbrella of the Grantown Initiative and without them, the illuminations simply would not light up - or even appear!
“Many people still think it is the Highland Council that do all this, but they don’t do any of it - it is totally down to volunteers in the community to make it all happen.
“So please we need everyone this year to give the community appeal their support.
“GI is inviting you to be a part of the Brighten Our Town: Grantown's Festive Lights Appeal - helping to make the town look cheerful and welcoming during the winter months. Your help can preserve Grantown's holiday spirit and keep this much loved tradition going for our community.
“Your contributions will directly fund the costs of repairing the old lights, plus the purchase of new ones and also help with the fast increasing costs of hiring the safety equipment for the Festive LIghts team of volunteers to carry out the work.
“Every pound you contribute will help ensure the seasonal display continues. Whether you can give a little or a lot, your support will be much appreciated by everyone in our community.”
