Highlands paintings in the mix at Aviemore laundry
You could say a Badenoch artist is making a clean break with a whole new collection of work – at her Aviemore laundry!
Lee Bissett, of Kincraig, has decided to let the world see the Highlands as she sees them, in a series of brooding landscapes which have not been seen before.
“I decided to concentrate on landscapes this time” she told the “Strathy” earlier this week, as she prepared for a mini season in the specially-created “Laundry Gallery” above the family launderette on the Dalfaber Industrial Estate.
She and partner David Hood run Spey Services Contract Cleaning Ltd, which has spent some 14 years expanding from holiday home and private house cleaner to commercial and industrial service provider.
But for next week the first floor will be devoted to her evocative landscapes, which represent a new departure for her.
“I have shown some work in Kingussie’s Iona Gallery recently, and sold some of my pieces recently at Logie Steading, but this is a new departure for me.
“I have long been inspired by the dramatic landscapes around Glencoe, where my grandfather, Jimmy Watt, was involved in building the Ski Lodge nearly 50 years ago. He continued to ski there for years – he’s 92 now – and the place has always been an inspiration for me.
“I’m looking forward to finding out how these pieces appear to the public eye."
All will be welcome.
The gallery, at 1A Unit 10, just past Cairngorm Brewery on the trading estate, will be open daily from 10.30am to 3pm from Saturday to Friday.
