Inspectors called to High Street eatery after noise complaints from neighbours
A High Street restaurant in Kingussie has had to close temporarily after inspectors discovered ‘significant’ health and safety concerns.
The Royal Tandoori, which moved into the former home of the Tipsy Laird last year, posted an impromptu sign blu-tacked to its main window on Saturday saying simply: “Sorry we are closed”.
Alan Yates, Highland Council’s environmental health manager, said: “Environmental health officers attended the Royal Tandoori Restaurant in Kingussie on the evening of Friday, August 2, following a noise complaint linked to the use of a generator.
“While inspecting the premises, officers identified significant health and safety concerns within the premises linked to fire and electrical safety issues particularly in the staff accommodation areas.
“As a result, officers contacted Scottish Fire & Rescue Service for assistance during the visit.
“This resulted in action being taken on the night to address the matters of immediate concern.
“The restaurant voluntary closed following the visit and remains closed.”
The Strathy tried to contact the owners but without success.
