Kingussie Parish Church is celebrating a grand gesture from a local Coop customer - five grand, in fact!

A new sharing system has produced the hugely useful pile of money and has astonished the team responsible for finding the funding to run two vital projects in the Badenoch capital.

“We didn’t believe it at first,” said Eppy Mackay at the kirk.

“We got a message which in our innocence we thought was just a scam - but fortunately we checked it out and it was true. This money will go such a long way to helping those who need a helping hand.”

The Co-op ‘Winners Share it All’ Prize Draw has awarded the church’s community projects with £5,000.

“We’re so very grateful to whoever chose us” said Mrs Mackay. “This will help run our Thursday community cafe whic, staving off loneliness for those who come along for a warm and a chat.

“But also it will help our support team who help to provide school uniforms and essential equipment to local children in these difficult times. That has proved so successful since we started it up.”

A spokesperson for the Coop explained: “We support local communities through our community partnerships and the Local Community Fund, which has donated over £107m to 36,000 causes since it began in 2016.

“We are giving away over £500,000 worth of prizes this year, and any customer could win a slice of it. Every month, £500 is up for grabs for someone plus £5000 for their chosen Local Community Fund cause.”
