Kingussie, “the little town of festivals” is celebrating the fine arts for the rest of the month, following a successful launch of this year’s annual SBSA summer exhibition on Friday (Aug 15).

Hundreds are visitors are expected through the door of Kingussie’s celebrated Iona Gallery in Duke Street.

The Society of Badenoch and Strathspey Artists has again produced a huge range of artworks and spokeswoman Philippa Mitchell told the “Strathy”: “Our members have been experimenting with colour and technique, showing that we have so much artistic talent right here in the national park.”

The community-run gallery is organised by volunteers and the festival is open daily 11am until 5pm until the August 31.

Friday’s launch enabled one special guest to enjoy a preview of the annual event. Amanda Catto from Creative Scotland, was in town to talk to the directors and committee members of The Iona Gallery about their future plans.

Said Philippa: “Amanda was impressed with the artwork on display and very encouraging of the group’s plans to develop the gallery further.

“We are looking at ways to work with partners locally to encourage participation and enjoyment in visual art.”
