John Gibson has confirmed that he is to retire as Kingussie first team manager.

It has been a wonderful season for the Kings with Saturday’s goalless draw against Lovat at Balgate closing a record-breaking year during which they have completed shinty’s grand slam, their first since 2003.

With the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup, the Artemis Macaulay Cup and the cottages.com MacTavish Cup already in the Kingussie trophy cabinet, Camanachd Association President Steven MacKenzie was present as Mowi Site Manager John Angus Gillies handed over the Mowi Premiership trophy to Kingussie skipper Savio Genini.

Later in the afternoon, the Annual Mowi Awards ceremony took place in Fort William where Gibson's achievements were recognised as he was afforded the 2022 national coach of the year accolade.

Speaking just after the event, John Gibson’s thoughts were firmly on his team’s successes this term.

He said: “It has been a fantastic season. I’m really proud of all our players and everyone behind the scenes at the club. So many have contributed to making this a truly memorable year and I’ll be forever grateful to each and every one of them.”
