Badenoch butcher’s bacon is a cut above
Local butchers Donald Gilmour have struck gold with their special products for the summer of 2024. The Kingussie butcher had success in the recent Craft Butcher Awards evaluation for home cured bacon products that was judged at Forth Valley College, Stirling earlier last month. Having been subjected to a right good grilling in the judging process, success came with gold award for their Streaky Bacon proving that local butchers have the cure to making everyone feel good.
Mr Gilmour was “delighted!” to be presented with the award outside his King Street shop by the event organisers, Scottish Craft Butchers. Scottish Craft Butchers Executive Manager Gordon King praised the innovation with flavour and concept that found favour with this year’s judges.
“The competition attracted a wide variety of innovative and imaginative products using home cured bacon and our craft butchers from all over Scotland thought outside the box to deliver this year’s favourites and offer something new and exciting for their customers,” said Mr King.
Ian McVicar of evaluation sponsors Scotweigh said they were delighted to sponsor the Home Cured Bacon Product Awards: “It has been a pleasure to see the innovative and tasty products that the Scottish Craft Butcher members have on offer to tempt the discerning consumer. Congratulations to all the award winners.”
