Kate Forbes in lead to become next SNP leader according to new Channel 4 poll

A new Channel 4 News poll has given Badenoch MSP a clear lead amongst the public to become the next leader of the SNP but the margin is much tighter amongst party members who will determine who wins.

The results of the survey give Ms Forbes an eight per cent lead in the leadership race amongst the public.

Nominations closed on 24 February with three candidates – Ms Forbes, Ash Regan and Humza Yousaf – contesting the leadership.

Voting begins on 13 March and ends on 27 March, with the leader to be declared that day.

Forbes Supporter Jim Fairlie MSP said: “The recent polling shows that only Kate can win the public vote. The wider electorate views Kate as a trusted and talented leader with a track record of delivery.

“It is no wonder that the opposition party leaders are running scared – which we saw at First Minister’s Questions.

“It is the SNP membership who will elect a new party leader and they will want to elect an election-winner.

“Kate will not take a single vote for granted, and she will continue to make the case that she is the strongest candidate to deliver independence for Scotland.”

Every SNP member who was in the party as of 15 February, this year, will be eligible to vote.

The election will take place on a one member, one vote basis, using a type of single transferable vote.

According to Wikipedia the SNP had 103,884 members as of December 2021.
