Lorna has Cher in her eyes again
A Grantown Cher fan will be turning back time on Saturday, recreating the rock star after 17 years for a charity "Stars in Their Eyes" night at Inverness.
Lorna Newlands (52) was a professional entertainer in a previous life and has been persuaded to take a break from selling her hand-crafted jewellery and perform Cher's '70s hit 'Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves' to raise cash for SNAP at the charity event organised by the Kingsmills Hotel.
As she dusted off her long black wig and laundered the outfit, she told the Strathy: "SNAP, the Special Needs Action Project, does an absolutely brilliant job supporting children and young adults with disabilities and that's why I decided to enter for this one-off performance.
“I say one-off, but if this all goes to plan for SNAP the event could just become an annual one. We all hope so, because we want to raise as much money for the charity as we can.”
Already friends have rallied magnificently and she has raised £1700 even before going through the famous smoke.
“It’ll be good fun at the Kingsmills on Saturday. I’m looking forward to telling hostess Nicola McAlley who I’m going to be...”
Hosted by STV reporter Nicola McAlley, the evening is set to be one to remember with dazzling contestants taking to the stage, with a makeover that is set to make the audience starstruck.
