An Italian tourist shouted at a door steward at a nightclub: ‘I am going to have your testicles with spaghetti and white wine sauce’.

Dal Monte Marzio made his comments as he was ejected from Johnny Foxes in Inverness early on Wednesday morning.

Appearing from custody, the 38 year-old parachute instructor Dal Monte Marzio was admonished by Justice of the Peace Caroline Smith after spending a night in the cells.

The court heard how Marzio, who has decided to cut short his Scottish holiday after his arrest, had been ejected from the premises at 12.05am and he made the threat to one of the door staff.

He returned to seating outside the pub and threw an ashtray at a steward then attempted to punch another steward on the head as he was restrained.

He admitted charges of assaulting one steward by throwing the ashtray at him and assaulting the other by attempting to punch him.

Depute fiscal Martina Eastwood said Marzio made the remark to a steward as he was escorted by door staff out of the building.

But he returned and it was then he carried out the assaults and was restrained until police arrived.

Solicitor Marc Dickson, told the court Marzio was an Italian national and had been intending to spend three weeks travelling around Scotland but now had decided to return home.

Mr Dickson explained Marzio flew initially to Amsterdam but his flights were disrupted and he was required to fly to Paris, then to Aberdeen and travelled by train to Inverness.

"He was not only very tired because he had been travelling for 24 hours but during the day to pass the time he took alcohol."

Mr Dickson said he fell into the company of various patrons at Johnny Foxes and was quite inebriated.

"He tried to find toilets and walked into a ‘staff only’ area.

"He was told to leave and there was an understandable language barrier and the situation deteriorated."

Mr Dickson said Marzio didn’t strike anyone and he found the whole experience of being taken into custody quite upsetting.

"It has put a dampener on his holiday plans. His intention now is to go back to Italy and he wishes to apologise to the door staff."

Marzio, who is from Forli near Bologna, had no previous conviction and Ms Smith said given the fact he had spent a night in custody she would admonish him.
