After 44 years, the Irvine family is moving on from their shop
Newtonmore is to get a new postmaster - after more than four decades.
The heroic era of Graeme Irvine is finally moving to its conclusion after tonight’s announcement on social media:
“So, we can finally let the cat out of the bag officially.
“The PO will have a new postmaster from Monday 8th July.
“We would like to wish Ken Tait from Postbox/Post Office, Kingussie and his team of staff all the best going forward.”
Mr Tait has established a well patronised PO in his shop on Kingussie High Street and is well versed to take over the added Badenoch responsibility, his customers will attest.
At Newtonmore, the shop will undergo a refit, said Mr Irvine, which will entail a fortnight’s closure next month.
But he added: “We are however looking at running an outreach service from the sorting office.
“We will confirm details of that in due course.”
He added: “Shirley will be staying on two days a week as at present.”
Alluding to the coincidental colours of the poster provided by the Post Office, matching the local camanachd club strip, he wry admitted: “We didn’t ask for the poster to be blue & white, but quite like that it is!!”
He asked:“Finally, can we thank you for the supporting the shop and post office whilst the family has run it for the past 44 years.
“We have really enjoyed it, providing what we feel is a vital service to the community that we’re proud to be part of, thanks again.”
