Inverness ward re-opens
Following a deep clean Ward 2C at Raigmore Hospital has reopened to new admissions.
The ward was closed after three patients tested positive for flu earlier this month (January 14).
Members of the public have been thanked for their co-operation during the period of closure which also saw visiting to the ward restricted.
Dr Adam Brown, consultant microbiologist for NHS Highland, said: “I’m pleased that the ward has been able to reopen and would like to thank staff across the hospital for their hard work during this time.
“I’d also like to thank members of the public for helping us by following our restrictions on visiting which helped us protect the health, privacy and dignity of our patients.
“We are still asking that you refrain from visiting relatives in the hospital if they have any flu like symptoms which will help us in stopping the spread.
“Coming in to hospital to visit a family member or friend when you have been ill with symptoms such as those associated with flu could put them, and our other patients, at risk so we would ask that you hold off visiting until you are better.”
Traditionally the number of cases of flu can increase during January. Flu is very infectious and can be serious but symptoms can usually be managed at home by resting, keeping warm and drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Paracetamol can also be taken to help ease some of the symptoms.
