A man who was using diazepam to wean himself off heroin was fined £200 when he was found with tablets concealed in his underpants.

Terence Boreman (33) of Glenurquhart Road, Inverness was found with 800 tablets in tinfoil in his underwear when searched at Burnett Road Police Station.

He admitted possession of the Class C drug on May 29.

His solicitor John McColl told the court Boreman had been abusing drugs - principally heroin - and was using the diazepam to wean himself off heroin which is a class A drug.

"He purchased them for a relatively modest sum," said Mr McColl.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson heard the tablets had a street value of between 50p and £1.
