SCOTLAND’S Queen of Clean Aggie MacKenzie, from Rothiemurchus, has opened the new British Red Cross shop in Aviemore - and bagged herself a new outfit in the process.

Aggie, star of television’s How Clean is Your House and Dancing on Ice, told the "Strathy": "I bought myelf a blue dress and a pair of gloves. I was really impressed with the shop. It’s very nice, really well organised and with a great group of volunteers."

The new shop at Myrtlefield in the village is looking for good quality clothes, household items and bric-a-brac to sell, as well as more volunteers to help run it.

Aggie said: "I hope local people will clear out their closets and donate their unwanted goods to the shop and that they will volunteer. You don’t have to volunteer for a great amount of time, just for a regular amount of time on a regular basis.

"Many Red Cross volunteers are in the 17 to 24 age bracket so you don’t have to be a retired person to help out. There is a very young volunteer in the Aviemore shop who loves it."

Ann-Marie Manson, Red Cross retail field manager for Northern Scotland, said: "We have a variety of jobs for volunteers, whether it’s serving customers or behind the scenes sorting goods."

She said volunteers can help in the shop for just an hour or two a week or much longer – whatever suits them and fits into their lives.

All the items in the Aviemore shop are stock coded so if they do not sell they will be moved on to another Red Cross shop and replaced with new stock every few weeks.

The shop is open Monday – Saturday 9am till 5pm and 11am till 4pm on Sundays
