Hole could soon be filled in Aviemore for those wanting to get piercings
Aviemore could be set to go from having no piercing and tattoo parlours to getting two.
The only place in the strath at present for those wanting body art is the Dark Trinity Art Tattoo Studio in Grantown but anyone wanting a piercing has to travel to Inverness.
But now that hole looks set to be plugged with applications going before the Highland Licensing Committee on January 10 for premises at Unit 14 and 15 on Grampian Road and Unit 13 on Dalfaber Industrial Estate.
Dmitri Sobczak, who runs the tattoo studio in the Strathspey capital, is behind the plans for the business at Dalfaber.
Highland Council's planning service has put in an objection to Mr Sobczak's licence bid pointing out that the use of the premises would require planning consent for a tattooist.
A separate application was submitted in February, last year, for a skin piercing and tattooing licence by Loch Ness Coffee Company Ltd for Aviemore Gift Company for the Grampian Road premises.
Highland licensing officers state in their report on the latter: "The licensing authority has 12 months from receipt of the application to determine the same, therefore this application must be determined by 26 February 2023.
"Failure to determine the application by this time would result in the application being subject of a 'deemed grant' which means that a licence would require to be issued for a period of one year.
"The application is before this committee as this is the last meeting before the determination date expires."
Both bids are due to be heard at a meeting of the next licensing committee which will take place in the council chamber in Inverness.
The members have the power to refuse the bids on a number of grounds including if the applicant is deemed not to be a fit and proper person.
