Torchlight processions and firework displays for Hogmanay wowed large crowds in Kingussie.

Lydie Bocquillon, of Kingussie Food on Film Festival, one of the organisers of the event said: "Hundreds of people gathered for a torchlight procession from the station to Ardvonie Park for a spectacular firework display to welcome 2012.

"Free drams of whisky and cups of hot chocolate were provided and everyone had a great time."

Local resident Iona Malcolm commented "My husband and I went along with our children and friends to Kingussie station on Hogmanay to join the torchlight procession. The occasion was very atmospheric, as the crowd followed the piper through the Memorial Gardens and up to Ardvonie Park."

She added: "The fireworks were very impressive and the event a great success; it was very family friendly. I hope this will become an annual event for the town."
