Highlands bomb threat hoax man wanted to be locked up
Police received a phone call on Wednesday from a man in Dingwall claiming he was going to bomb the High Street.
But Inverness Sheriff Court heard homeless addict Sean Macleod was just trying to get himself back into prison.
The 23 year-old appeared from custody and admitted stealing a bottle of alcohol from Tesco’s store in Mart Road on July 6 and on August 10 behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by making phone calls to the emergency services making threatening remarks.
Depute fiscal Roderick Urquhart said the theft on July 6 was recorded on CCTV and there was no recovery of the stolen bottle of alcohol.
"In relation to the call (on Wednesday) he said where he was and said he was going to bomb the High Street. This happened at 2.15am.
"He seems to have told police he didn’t want to be out on bail and wanted back in prison."
Clare Russell said the last comment summed up the situation.
"He doesn’t have an address to reside at. He doesn’t have any income."
Relating to the shoplifting charge she said Macleod suffered from alcohol dependency and on Wednesday she said he was under the influence of substances including Valium, heroin and legal highs.
"He suffers from alcohol and drug dependency, anxiety, depression and drug induced psychosis and feels he does not get the help in the community but does in custody which is what he wishes."
Sheriff Mark Thorley said the public at large should have to suffer such conduct.
He jailed Macleod for four months.
