Margaret's fundraising efforts commended by Highland MSP
Highlands and Islands MSP, Edward Mountain, has praised the fundraising efforts of Margaret Payne by lodging a Scottish Parliament motion.
Margaret Payne continues to climb the equivalent of Suilven mountain on her stairs and her endeavours have captured the public’s imagination.
The Scottish Parliament motion states: “That the Parliament congratulates Margaret Payne, who is 90 and from Ardvar, on raising more than £20,000 for the NHS and Highland Hospice; notes that Margaret has set a target of reaching the equivalent of the 2,398 ft peak of Suilven by climbing the staircase at her home 282 times over the next two months; notes that she first climbed Suilven in 1944 aged 15 with her sister, and wishes Margaret every success in her endeavours.”
At the time of lodging the motion, Margaret had raised more than £20,000 but as it currently stands donations are nearing the £275,000 mark.
Mr Mountain said: “Margaret is truly going above and beyond in her fundraising efforts and it is right that her endeavours are acknowledged at the Scottish Parliament.
"I wish her success as she continues her climb.
"Every donation counts and will make a big difference to helping NHS Highland and Highland Hospice during the pandemic.”
