Badenoch MSP Dave Thompson has volunteered to record his speech for a project which will potentially help reconstruct patient voices that have been damaged through Motor Neurone Disease.

The MN Voice Bank Project, organised by the Euan MacDonald Centre and Edinburgh University Informatics team, will be in the Scottish Parliament for the next two months.

Dave said: “I am only too pleased to aid this project in any way that I can, and I would encourage anyone who is able to participate to do so.

“MND, MS, Parkinson’s and many other conditions including strokes can lead to the loss of a patients voice, which means huge and difficult adjustments for the patient and of course for their family.

“A person’s voice is a large part of their identity, and the loss of it can leave patients feeling frustrated and isolated.

“The more people who participate in this excellent project, the more comprehensive a database that can be build which will allow for a patients voice to be reconstructed as near to their original voice as possible.”

More information on the project is available at: http://www.euanmacdonaldcentre.com/voicebank.html
