MSP's fear of 'terrifying' lack of firefighting coverage

Commenting on reports that large parts of the Highlands and Islands have experienced no firefighter cover on multiple dates, Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant today submitted a Written Parliamentary Question to the Scottish Government on the issue.

She has asked the Scottish Government what will be done to resolve personnel shortages.

Mrs Grant has also written to the Fire and Rescue Service asking for their response to these reports and if they believe this will occur again.

“To see a large proportion of the Highlands and Islands not covered by firefighter cover is terrifying," she said.

“Rural communities feel isolated enough and this is a further example of urban approaches not working in rural areas and I wish to see it addressed urgently.”
