Highland man drove nearly five times drink limit with child in car
A sheriff warned a drunk driver he could face prison after he was stopped by police with a child in his car while nearly five times the legal drink drive limit.
Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist heard at Inverness Sheriff Court that police on mobile patrol stopped Jonathan Peters because they were concerned about the manner of his driving.
Peters, (29,) of Bruce Avenue, Inverness admitted driving with 151mcgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath on Dochfour Drive, Fairfield Road and Bruce Avenue, Inverness on May 9.
Depute fiscal Michelle Molley said they stopped Peters after a short distance when their attention was drawn to his vehicle.
She said as well as the accused in the vehicle there was a child in the front passenger’s seat.
Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist said he would need reports before sentencing.
He told Peters: "Putting yourself at risk is one thing. Putting a child in danger is something entirely different.
"I am going to defer for reports to see if there is any disposal other than a custodial sentence."
Sentence was deferred until December 19 for background reports.
