Highland Council's new corporate communications manager
The Highland Council has appointed its new corporate communications manager.
She is Ruth Cleland, currently strategic engagement manager with Highlands and Islands.
Mrs Cleland was, from April 2008 to October 2014, head of communications with Northern Constabulary and before that held the roles of head of internal communications with NHS Highland (2005- 2009) and PR and communications manager with the Highland Acute Hospitals Trust (1999-2005).
Married with a son and three daughters and lives in Nairn, she was educated at Glenlola Collegiate, Bangor N Ireland, and then went to Swansea University where she gained a Bachelors Degree BA (Hons) in English Literature. She then worked in England prior to moving to the Highlands in 1989.
She takes over from Gordon Fyfe, PR manager with The Highland Council who retired at the end of May.
Steve Barron, Chief Executive of The Highland Council said: “I’m pleased to announce that Ruth has been appointed and I look forward to working with her. She brings a wealth of experience and an excellent track record to this key post.”
Mrs Cleland, who takes up her new job on Monday August 11 said: "I have enjoyed working with The Highland Council as partners over the past few years and I am delighted to have now been appointed to this role."
