Oops! Inverness shows its solidarity with...Fair Trade
As Russia brutally invades independent Ukraine and the world despairs at the action, social media has understandably been full of the Highland capital's solidarity with the former soviet republic, which broke away to its freedom in 1991 when the USSR collapsed.
Messages of hope and support have circulated around the Ness Bridge's reproduction of the Ukraine colours.
But Highland Council have explained that – at this stage anyway – that is not the message being projected on the landmark crossing.
"The Bridge is currently lit today and for the past few days for Fair Trade Fortnight," a spokesperson confirmed to the Strathy this afternoon.
"We will be issuing a statement this afternoon about it being lit for a different reason.
"The comments about the colours today are incorrect – it is currently for Fair Trade."
This afternoon, though, council convener Bill Lobban told the Strathy: "The bridge illumination in similar colours last night was purely coincidence but this evening, following my suggestion, it will be lit up to show solidarity with the Ukraine."
Meanwhile, Holyrood in Edinburgh continues to make the Scottish Government's support for the embattled Ukraine people crystal clear.
