HIGH ALERT IS ON: Take care over the whole week, say SFRS

An alert has gone out tonight of an extreme wildfire risk across the Highlands.

“Scotland faces a very high to extreme risk of wildfire from Wednesday 2 to Monday 7,” announced the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“With dry vegetation and warm weather, fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and burn intensely.

“Please avoid lighting any outdoor fires this week.”

The public are being urged to enjoy the outdoors responsibly: “Most wildfires are caused by human activity.

“Stay alert: dry vegetation acts as fuel for fire, making conditions even more dangerous.”
