Heroin man launched tirade at Raigmore Hospital
A man shouted at police and continued his tirade at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he was later found to be in possession of heroin.
Appearing from custody, Daniel McCafferty (25) admitted on February 5, 2016 at 9d Friars Street and at the Accident and Emergency unit at Raigmore Hospital behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting at police officers and on February 7 at Raigmore Hospital being in possession of diamorphine.
McCafferty was also found in possession of heroin during a routine search at Inverness Sheriff Court on October 22, last year. He admitted the offence.
A co-accused Derek Macleod (37) had sentence deferred for preparation of a drug treatment testing order report until April l7.
He admitted possession of diamorphine and diazepam at 9b Friars Street on February 5, 2016.
Depute fiscal David Morton said police had a warrant for the search of the address in Friars Street on February 5 and both McCafferty and Macleod were present.
Macleod was in possession of 19 grammes of heroin and a single wrap of diazepam.
Both were detained and McCafferty became abusive.
Mr Morton said: "As a result of the search he was taken to the Accident and Emergency unit at Raigmore Hospital where he was monitored and he continued shouting and swearing at the officers and being generally obstructive."
The fiscal said McCafferty was later found to be in possession of a small quantity of heroin.
Then on October 22 the fiscal said he was found in possession of the Class A drug again at Inverness Sheriff Court. The fiscal said McCafferty had four wraps worth £130.
Sheriff Kevin Drummond deferred sentence on Macleod for a drug treatment testing order assessment until April 17.
McCafferty’s solicitor Willie Young asked for him to be considered for a drug treatment testing order. But Sheriff Drummond said he was not satisfied McCafferty was suitable for such an order because of previous non compliance and his personal circumstances.
He jailed him for 162 days from Monday’s hearing when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court today.
