Pine marten rescue: a welcoming stroke

High drama at Loch Insh Outdoor Centre this weekend with an emergency rescue - but it was far from the water.!

One of the young “residents” took a spill amongst the site’s many beautiful trees and had to be helped out by the staff, who did a great job in the circumstances.

Jacalyn Freshwater, who helps run the family-owned centre, told the Strathy on Friday: “This gorgeous wee boy fell from his nest and after seeking advice and waiting overnight for mom to return to collect him, the Scottish SPCA stepped in to help.”

Along came Animal Rescue Officer Vanessa Hobday and matters were soon well in hand - and glove.

Mrs Freshwater assured us: “He’ll get fluids and food before heading to a rehab center.

“Once he’s strong enough, he’ll be released back into the wild.”

There are several pine marten families living around the Loch Insh area so the team knew just how to deal with the situation.

Gotcha! safe and sound

But impressed as ever by the local SSPCA operation, they suggested anyone interested in animal welfare should read up on the organisation “and the remarkable work these guys do!”
