Consultation goes on at Grantown into a more attractive and accessible town
Grantown AAA – the drive to create a Strathspey capital that’s active, accessible and attractive – is progressing well after well organised consultation events.
The ambition has the full backing of The Grantown Society and representatives of Grantown and Vicinity Community Council.
The event created an additional focal point at the buzzing market in Grantown’s showpiece centre throughout the day.
The Sustrans-funded project aims to provide safe, accessible and attractive routes within and around the Strathspey capital.
It is a project driven by the community, with organisers saying it will deliver real benefits and improvements for all residents, workers and visitors to the historic town.
There has been no shortage of feedback on questions such as:
What barriers can you identify which hinder, and what do you think would help, making walking, cycling or wheeling more likely to be preferred options for everyday journeys in and around Grantown?
What issues would you like to see the town’s community council tackle?”
Many comments so far have focussed on such issues as traffic speed and safer crossings to moving the farmers market to the sunny side of The Square and establishing bus services from the town to Elgin and Forres.
The society’s heritage calendar and several unique publications are helping to keep the interest going in the community.
Bill Sadler, The Grantown Society chairman and 3A’s project manager, told the Strathy: “Our last outing was most successful and we look forward to receiving many more comments as a result of the postcard questionnaire we are organising.
“It is hoped, too, that this project will be a focal point for walks and cycle routes radiating out from the town along the river, to the woods and to Cromdale, Dulnain, Nethy and Dava.”
